What happens when Amouage takes one of its most theatrical eaux de parfum and hands it back to Quentin Bisch with instructions to make it darker? Decision 42 joins the Exceptional Extraits, aged six weeks at 42 percent perfume oil against the 15 to 20 percent that normally defines the format. The number in the name is the entire point.
It opens brighter than you expect, neroli and bergamot with cinnamon and cardamom striking like the lightning in the brief. Then the forest catches fire, juniper against rectified pine tar, frankincense and myrrh pulling it somewhere colder and rougher than the original ever went. Then vanilla, labdanum, cedarwood and patchouli bring the warmth back for twelve hours or more, and it does not politely fade.
The 100ml is $550 and only reaches distributors worldwide in October. A 10ml decant is months of wear for a fraction of the entry price.
