Amouage Outlands is what happens when Cécile Zarokian is handed a 30% concentration and told to build a love letter to the resin trade. The result is a layered, smoky, amber-resinous monster that opens with a cardamom-citrus-pepper burst before unfolding into a heart of patchouli, rose, saffron, and wormwood, finally settling on benzoin, labdanum, oud, and ambergris.

Bright spice and frankincense lift first. Then a dense, almost medicinal floral-spice heart takes over with cumin and saffron pulling the rope. Then the resins set in — labdanum and benzoin smolder for the rest of the day, with oud and birch tar curling underneath. Twelve-plus hours, monster sillage, the kind of trail people remember.
