Bast is what happens when Sidonie Lancesseur is handed the ancient Egyptian anti, the frankincense and myrrh preparation the pharaohs burned in ceremony, and told to make it wearable. It is the founding fragrance of the Paris house anti, a brand built on olfactory archaeology, and it goes at incense from two directions at once: the fresh, lifted essence and the warm, resinous absolute, overdosed together.
Frankincense and cardamom open it like a temple door, bright and dry and a little green. Then Greek saffron and incense absolute take the middle with cypriol threading smoke underneath. Then myrrh and a soft caramelized amber close it out, more cozy than churchy by the end. Six to eight hours, worn close rather than loud.
