Houbigant Ambre des Abysses is Olivier Cresp at his most cinematic, an amber composition with marine and salt accords layered through the heart, anchored in oud, labdanum, and ambergris. The effect is warm and resinous but never heavy, with a strange coastal coolness running through it.

It opens with cardamom, pink pepper, and a faint sea-salt freshness that you do not expect from an amber. Cypress, cinnamon, and rose add depth through the heart. Then the base unfolds slowly, amber and labdanum wrapping around oud and vetiver for eight-plus hours of warm, slightly briny resin.
