What happens when Hedi Slimane brings the Dior Homme lineage with him to Celine? Black Tie is the standout of the Haute Parfumerie collection he launched in 2019, and it takes the orris and vanilla idea that made Bois d'Argent famous and makes it rounder, quieter and considerably more expensive. Celine does not credit its perfumers, on purpose.
It opens on white orris butter, powdery and chalky and immediately grown-up, with none of the sweetness you brace for. Then cedar and tree moss give it an earthy floor that keeps the powder from floating away. Then vanilla and musk fold in underneath, creamy without ever going edible, and hold six to eight hours right against the skin.
The 100ml is $350 and sold only through Celine's own boutiques, which is why decants exist. Try 5ml before you go find a store.
