Sun Emperors is the Doha exclusive, composed by Jordi Fernandez around a saffron dose most houses would call reckless. Getting a bottle out of Qatar is the hard part. Smelling it is the easy part.
It opens on saffron alone, dark and leathery and immediately expensive. Then jasmine and tobacco fill in underneath, sweet and dry at the same time, more pipe tobacco than cigarette. Then Indonesian patchouli, akigalawood, benzoin and vanilla close it out in a warm amber glow that runs ten to twelve hours and leaves a trail on fabric for days.
This bottle cost $1000 to source and does not appear on any US retail shelf. A 2ml decant is a fraction of a plane ticket to Doha.
